Fibronectin is a soluble dimeric glycoprotein of 440 kDa, which is present in cells, extracellular matrix, and blood. This MAb reacts with the cellular as well as plasma form of fibronectin. Reportedly, after iv administration, this MAb localizes to tumor vessels where it binds to the underlying basement. The epitope recognized by this antibody is not accessible to the circulating MAb in normal tissues, indicating that it can be used to specifically target tumor vessels in vivo. TV-1 is reportedly useful for delivering vasoactive agents to tumors to induce increased vascular permeability or blood flow prior to treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs or MAbs.Primary antibodies are available purified, or with a selection of fluorescent CF Dyes and other labels. The epitope of this antibody is located in the 8th type III repeat in the cell-binding region of fibronectin. Fibronectins are disulfide-linked, dimeric glycoproteins of ~440 kDa. They possess at least four binding sites for collagen, glycosaminoglycans, transglutaminase, and a cell surface receptor. Fibronectins are involved in cell adhesion, tissue organization, and wound healing. Fibronectins are present in basement membranes, interstitial connective tissue matrix, and blood. Cellular fibronectin is widely distributed in the stroma of many malignant tumors. This MAb is excellent for staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.

In Western blotting, this antibody recognizes proteins in MW range of 265-400 kDa, identified as different glycoforms of EMA. This MAb reacts with the DTRP epitope in the tandem repeats. Thealpha subunit has cell adhesive properties. It can act both as an adhesion and an anti-adhesion protein. EMA may provide a protective layer on epithelial cells against bacterial and enzyme attack. The beta subunit contains a C-terminal domain, which is involved in cell signaling, through phosphorylations and protein-protein interactions. In immunohistochemical assays, it superbly stains routine formalin/paraffin carcinoma tissues.
